Course Topics Certificate Upon completion of this course participants will receive a Pet First Aid Certificate, issued by Kinsale Academy, which is widely recognized in the pet industry. About Kinsale Academy Kinsale Academy was founded in 2007. The philosophy of Kinsale Academy is to provide excellent and up-to-date courses and seminars for people that want to be informed beyond the basics and industry requirements. Students of Kinsale Academy learn in an engaging and informal environment geared toward the individuals. The founder, Corinna Bollmann, is a successful business woman that owns and operates a holistic and crate-free dog daycare and boarding facility called Doggie Minder in Pickering, Ontario. Corinna has done extensive research and studies in what it takes to run a business successfully and what training techniques are best received by students. Over time, staff at Doggie Minder realized through talking with clients, how little most pet owners know about handling illness or injuries and how to prevent them in the first place. Corinna trained with Ethne Dickinson of renowned Oakland Educational Services Ltd in Calgary, in order to complete her instructor qualifications in 2006. Ethne developed a pet first aid course and manual together with veterinarians and other pet professionals, and has been teaching her techniques since 1994. In 2005 Ethne contacted Corinna to teach her course to students in the Greater Toronto Area. When Ethne retired in the summer of 2007, Corinna recognized the need to continue teaching pet first aid courses to the community. She developed her own course concept and workbook, and uses an updated handbook that includes holistic topics as well and some basic pet food information. As a result of Corinna’s studies, the first program of Kinsale Academy is an in-depth pet first aid certificate course that provides students with detailed information about holistic and conventional preventative pet care and how to handle an emergency situation. This sole objective of the course is to give pet lovers the necessary information and skills which are needed to stabilize an injured pet until qualified veterinary care can be obtained. It is not meant to replace care by a veterinarian. |
